Hi, I’m Sheryl.
Founder of ‘Your Own Wave’.
A community for woman embracing the freedom and opportunities that come with being child-free.
What’s it all about?
My life got a whole lot more fun-filled once I met other people who were child-free.
Knowing that, I felt compelled to create a space for child-free women who are open to meeting new people, and love spending time outdoors, to have the opportunity to connect and have fun together.
It’s not that my friends who have families aren’t up for socialising every now and then. It’s just a fact that family life is understandably their priority, meaning they don’t have as much time (and possibly energy) as someone who is not a parent.
And that can leave a bit of a social void in your life.
If you’re the sort of person who likes some company to go places or do things, you can easily find yourself not doing the things you would love to do. Which can leave you feeling unfulfilled and/or lonely.
But there’s a growing number of women in the UK living outside of the typical picture of life. A sea of opportunity to make new connections and enjoy life with.
Just like when your friends take the path to parent-hood, they make new friends going through similar life experiences, through NCT group, toddler group, school etc, there’s an opportunity for women taking a different path, to make new friends and share experiences.
So if you agree that life is so much more fun shared, come and join the community.

Who can I expect to meet?
This community is typically going to appeal to child-free women aged 35-45.
However age is not so important here. The key thing is your appetite for living - whether that’s getting outdoors, trying new activities, meeting new people, eating yummy food, generally having fun, enjoying a beautiful sunset or watching a supermoon rise etc.
If you’re a bit younger or older, but the community and it’s activities sounds appealing to you, JOIN IN!
Where will meet-ups and events be held?
Initially most meet-ups and events will be on or near the Dorset Coast. Suited to locally-based members.
Some events will be online, opening up the opportunity to connect with others further afield.
The medium-term plan is to host day and weekend events, enabling all members (near and far) the chance to meet-up in-person. And the longer-term ambition is to arrange trips abroad.
Is it really free?
You can join the community for free.
Social meet-ups such as Beach chill and chat, Coastal walks, Coffee & Cake, Sunset Cocktails are free to attend, and you simply pay for your own food or drinks if applicable.
Whilst other activities require booking for the group up front, requiring payment in advance. Such as Sauna sessions, water activities, creative workshops.
Is the Community on social media?
In short, No.
This is deliberately so.
One, because the community is centred around people connecting in-person, and promoting a life that’s less time on your phone and more time living in the real world. And that goes for me too.
Two - so the community grows through referral, and attracts more of the same great quality members who genuinely want to be part of the community.
Three - for safety. The rest of the world does not need to know where we’re meeting and when.
Is there a WhatsApp Group?
Yes. WhatsApp is used to communicate meet-ups, event booking links, and event polls. It is not a chat group, but you can reply to posts.
Community news and updates that have larger amounts of info will be communicated via email to keep WhatsApp focused on meet-up info.
You’ll receive the link to the WhatsApp group when you sign up to the community email list.
